Circa 1913 Roger Bresnahan Photo Collection (4)

Collection of four vintage press photos, culled from The Chicago Sun Times archives, each capturing Hall of Fame catcher Roger Bresnahan. 1) Photo of Bresnahan as a member of the Cubs. Bresnahan is pictured in uniform accepting an award as members of both the Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals look on. A handwritten period notation (in pencil) on the reverse describes the scene: "Mayor Kiel of St. Louis presenting Roger Bresnahan of the Cubs a diamond-studded watch fob contributed by his St. Louis admirers on April 17/13. Additional reverse markings include a date stamp ("Apr 18 1913"), a photographer's credit stamp ("A. A. Coult") and a handwritten statement from the photographer granting The Chicago Daily News permission to reproduce the photo. Outstanding clarity. 6.5 x 4.75 inches. 2) Photo of Bresnahan as a member of the Cardinals. Reverse markings consist of a "Feb 24 1913" and editorial notations. 4 x 6 inches. 3) Photo of Bresnahan as a member of the Cubs. Reverse markings consist of a few handwritten notations, including a date that is illegible. Heavy editorial shading and outlining. 5 x 6.25 inches. 4) Photo of Bresnahan in formal attire. This is a very early image of Bresnahan, probably dating from the turn of the century. Reverse markings consist of editorial notations and the handwritten date "3-15-23." 3.75 x 5.5 inches. The 1913 presentation photo is in Excellent to Mint condition. The other three photos all display minor flaws common to working press photos, including trimming, minor surface wrinkles, and editorial outlining and shading, and are in Very Good condition overall.
