1965-1968 Lou Brock Signed Pro-Model Bat

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,819

Lou Brock H&B signature-model "K75" bat dating from the 1965-1968 manufacturing period. Graded GU9 by PSA/DNA. The bat displays heavy use, including numerous ball and stitch marks on the right and back of the barrel, rack marks, and a light coat of pine tar on the handle. The number "20" (Brock's uniform number) is written on the knob in black marker. Also written on the knob, in pencil, is the bat's original weight (in ounces), "32.3." Brock has signed the bat in blue marker (grading "9/10") directly below the barrel stamping. This is a scarce and outstanding early Lou Brock pro-model bat (dating from the 1960s), and much more elusive than the commonly seen examples dating from the 1970s. That fact, coupled with the exceptional use displayed, makes it the finest Lou Brock pro-model bat we have ever offered. Ideally, this bat dates to Brock's first four full seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, a period that witnessed him become not only one of the baseball's top outfielders, but also its premier base stealer. Brock led the National League in steals eight times in his career, including a then-record 118 in 1974. The years 1965 through 1968 were particularly productive for the speedster. Brock recorded fifty-eight of his career 147 home runs during that span, as well as leading the league in stolen bases three times. That same four-year period saw the Cardinals capture two pennants and one World Championship, with Brock's contributions to the club recognized by his seventh and sixth-place finishes, respectively, in the National League MVP voting for 1967 and 1968. A member of baseball's elite 3,000 Hit Club, Brock retired in 1979 with a .293 lifetime average and 938 stolen bases. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 31.4 ounces. Graded GU9 by PSA/DNA. LOAs from John Taube and Vince Malta of PSA/DNA and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500.
