1903 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet John McGraw - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $6,463

Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. Highest-graded example! Magnificent high-grade example of Hall of Famer John McGraw from the very popular W600 Sporting Life cabinet-card set, issued in mid-1903. SGC EX/NM 80 is an almost unheard of high grade for any W600 Sporting Life cabinet card, let alone for a significant Hall of Famer such as John McGraw. This is an extraordinary card. Two variations of McGraw (both in street clothes) were issued in W600: one with an infielder designation and one with a manager designation. The offered example is the "manager" variation. Extremely bright, crisp, and clean, both front and back, with perfect centering and strong square corners with only the slightest hint of wear. No creases. This card really couldn't be much better. It is accompanied by the original glassine envelope in which the card was issued, which has protected it since 1903 (removed from the envelope so that it could be submitted to SGC for grading by REA). W600 Sporting Life cabinet cards were available only by mail. They are universally recognized as among the most substantial and highest-quality baseball-card sets ever issued. This is an outstanding ultra high-grade example of one of John McGraw’s most majestic cards, and one that would be a significant addition to any world-class W600, Hall of Fame, or prewar card collection. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000.
