1890s Spalding Guide Collection (5)

During the late 1800s Spalding's Official Base Ball Guide provided a wealth of information for the baseball populace, including current rules, statistics, season summaries, and schedules for both the Major and minor league circuits. Today, the guides continue to inform and are invaluable reference works for historians. Offered here is a small run of Spalding guides from 1892 through 1895, a 1916 Spalding Guide, and an early Chadwick's Base Ball Manual from 1889. Spalding Guides: 1) 1892. The front cover bears the partial label of a local sporting goods merchant in the upper right corner; otherwise Ex-Mt. 2) 1893. Back cover missing; otherwise Vg. 3) 1894. Vg. 4) 1895. Small tear on cover. Vg-Ex. 5) 1916. Vg-Ex. The 1889 Chadwick's Base Ball Manual is heavily worn, with tears along the cover and spine, and is in Good to Very Good condition. Also included here is a an 1869 issue of Oliver Optic's Magazine - Our Boys and Girls (Lee & Shepard, Boston). The November 13, 1869, issue features an illustration of a baseball game in progress on the cover and a brief article mentioning the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. Vg-Ex.
