Hank Greenberg Single-Signed Baseball

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,175

Official American League (MacPhail) ball signed by Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg. The signature, which is perfectly situated in the center of the sweet spot, has been flawlessly signed in black felt-tip pen and grades "10." Based upon the manufacturer's stampings, this ball dates to the late 1970s or early 1980s and therefore was signed by Greenberg shortly before his death in 1986. Hank Greenberg single-signed ball have always been particularly scarce and very high on collectors' want lists. The demand outweighs the supply by a considerable margin. In addition to being a favorite among collectors, Greenberg passed away just before single-signed baseballs became universally recognized as the ideal and values began to skyrocket in response to collector demand. The ball displays an uneven coat of protective shellac and moderate surface wear which has partially obscured the manufacturer's label. Technically the condition of the ball itself is mid-grade, but the signature is an absolute "10" and, as can be seen, is an an extremely impressive example for display. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,175
