1948 Signed First Edition of The Babe Ruth Story

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $11,750

Outstanding high-grade signed copy of one of the most desirable of all baseball books: a first edition of The Babe Ruth Story by Babe Ruth as told to Bob Considine (New York: E. P. Dutton & Co., 1948). This particular copy features a flawless Babe Ruth signature (grading "10") scripted in blue fountain pen on the front flyleaf. The Babe Ruth Story was published just months prior to Ruth's death, a time when his failing health precluded him from honoring all of the many autograph requests he normally received. Thus, signed copies of this book are not only rare but also represent one of the most important and final items ever penned by the legendary "Sultan of Swat." For that reason they are highly prized by collectors today. This is a particularly strong example of this signed classic and easily one of the finest we have ever seen, with the Ruth signature perfectly preserved in the interior. The offered book is also accompanied by its original dust jacket. The dust jacket displays a few tiny edge tears and is in Very Good to Excellent condition. The 250-page book (5.75 x 8.5 inches) is in Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $11,750
