1888 N162 Goodwin Champions "King" Kelly

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,350

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Presented is a very attractive N162 example of Hall of Famer Mike "King" Kelly, one the key cards from this very popular and colorful set of fifty, issued by Old Judge and Gypsy Queen Cigarettes. When advanced collectors discuss their favorite cards and sets of all time, the rarity and beauty of N162s usually puts the issue near the top of any list. This card of Mike Kelly in particular is universally recognized as one of the great classics of all nineteenth-century baseball cards. This is a beautiful card! The striking VG-EX example is bright and clean, both front and back, with flawless colors. The card appears at a glance even stronger than its appropriate VG-EX SGC grade, and appears to have been downgraded due to a tiny black stain on the left border and light, even corner wear. This is an extremely attractive example of one of the most desirable of all nineteenth-century baseball cards. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $2,000. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,350
