1948 Bowman Complete Set (48)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,233

The 1948 Bowman set is an extremely significant landmark issue of the postwar era, literally launching a new era of bubble-gum card collecting. Key rookie cards of many stars and Hall of Famers highlight Bowman's first baseball-card issue. This is an exceptionally attractive mid- to high-grade complete set. 60% range in grade from Ex to Nr/Mt, 40% Vg to Vg-Ex. Fourteen of the key cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA (representing 29% of the set). Keys: #1 Elliot RC (Vg-Ex), 2 Blackwell (Ex-Mt appearance, possible slight trim), 3 Kiner RC (PSA EX-MT 6), 4 Mize (PSA EX-MT 6), 5 Feller (PSA EX 5), 6 Berra RC (PSA EX 5), 7 Reiser SP (possible slight trim, otherwise Ex), 8 Rizzuto RC (PSA EX+ 5.5), 12 Sain RC (PSA EX-MT 6), 14 Reynolds RC (PSA NM 7), 15 Joost (PSA EX-MT 6), 17 Slaughter (PSA EX-MT 6), 18 Spahn RC (PSA EX-MT 6), 19 Henrich (Vg), 29 Page RC (PSA EX-MT+ 6.5), 35 Stirnweiss RC (PSA EX-MT 6), 36 Musial RC (PSA EX 5), 38 Schoendienst (PSA EX 5), 40 Marion RC (Ex), 47 Thomson RC (80/20 T/B, otherwise Ex). Beautiful mixed-grade set of this significant postwar issue with many condition highlights. The total SMR value for just the fourteen graded cards (not including the 34 ungraded cards) is $1,777. Total 48 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,233
