1888 N172 Old Judge Buck Ewing

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,350

Graded EX 60 by SGC. Only example graded at this level by SGC, with just two graded higher. Stunning high-grade 1888 N172 Old Judge card featuring New York Hall of Famer Buck Ewing (fielding grounder, “EWING, C., New Yorks”). Ewing is one of the most prominent of all nineteenth-century Hall of Famers. The offered example has a flawless surface, four square corners displaying just a hint of wear, and is centered to the left (approximately 20/80 L/R). Particularly bright, crisp, and clean front and back (a very tiny reverse blemish, of no consequence, mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy). The photo is actually even stronger than it appears at a glance on this card, as Ewing's light uniform naturally does not contrast strongly against the light background. This is a very attractive high-grade example of one of the most highly prized Hall of Famers in the N172 Old Judge set. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,350
