1912 T207 Brown Background Partial Set (150 of 200) Plus 4 Variations

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $15,275

T207 Brown Background partial set is comprised of 150 of the 200 cards in the set, plus four variations for a total 154 different cards from this classic tobacco-card issue. 70% range in grade from Vg-Ex to Ex (includes some Ex-Mt), 20% Vg, and 10% lesser (includes several which appear Ex but have a very slight trim). This is a particularly strong partial set, especially for T207 which is so prone to surface cracking and creasing. The partial set was very carefully assembled one card at a time over a period of years by a very patient and dedicated collector. The T207 set includes many rare cards and has always been extremely challenging to complete. Included here are eleven rare cards, as well as many scarce cards that do not fall into the extremely rare category. We have selected twelve cards (the eleven rarities plus the very scarce Graham) to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: Benz (VG/EX 50), Birmingham (VG/EX 50), Cicotte (slight trim), Donlin (EX/NM 80), Fournier (VG/EX 50), Graham (VG 40), Hartley (EX/NM 80), Hoff (VG/EX 50), Houser (GOOD 30), Miller (Bklyn, FAIR 20), Peters (EX 60), Rath (EX 60), Sweeney (EX 60), and Wood (slight trim). Among the listed key cards, two have the rare red Cycle backs, nine cards have the rare Broad Leaf advertising backs, one has the Napoleon Little Cigars back, and one has no advertising on the reverse. The rare backs (Cycle, Broad Leaf, and no advertising) are always associated with the rarer cards in the T207 set. The remaining 137 cards all have Recruit advertising backs. This is an exceptionally attractive partially complete set, appearing at a glance far stronger than suggested by the very respectable and technically accurate grades listed above. The tremendous number of extremely rare cards in the T207 set makes this issue one of the most difficult to complete of all 1910-era tobacco card sets. There are quite a few rare cards to find to bring this set to completion, but this collection represents a very substantial and unusually high quality foundation for the assembly of this classic tobacco-card set. This is an exceptionally strong and extremely attractive partial set of this important tobacco-card issue. Total 154 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $15,275
