1909-1911 T206 White Border Collection Including Ty Cobb SGC 60 EX (82)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,406

Collection of eighty-one different (plus one duplicate) T206 White Border cards in various grades, including eleven Hall of Famers, highlighted by Ty Cobb and Christy Mathewson. The Ty Cobb card is a particularly significant and impressive highlight, by chance the highest-grade card in the collection and also the most valuable. The T206 set is the most widely collected of all 1910-era tobacco issues. We have selected four cards to be graded by SGC. Highlights: Baker (Pr), Chance/bat (VG/EX 50), Clarke/port. (Vg-Ex), Cobb/red (EX 60, bright and clean with a striking image centered slightly to the left), Lajoie/bat (VG/EX 50), Mathewson/port. (VG 40), McGraw/finger (Vg), McGraw/cap (BVG GOOD 2), Tinker/port. (Pr), Willis/bat (Vg), and Willis/throw (Pr). The balance of the cards in this collection grade as follows: thirty-five cards range from Vg to Vg-Ex, and thirty-six are lesser (mostly Poor). Tobacco cards in this condition represent perhaps the best value among all vintage baseball cards. This is a very attractive collection of classic T206 tobacco cards, mostly mid-grade, including several notable highlights. Total 82 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,406
