1935 R321 Goudey Babe Ruth PSA EX 5

Starting Bid - $1,500.00 , Sold For - $1,292.50

Graded EX 5 by PSA. High-grade example of the key card from the 1935 Goudey “4-in-1” set, featuring Babe Ruth on his final card issued during his playing days. This is a fascinating card. While Ruth is identified with the Boston Braves, Goudey has actually borrowed and cropped the Yankee dugout pose image of Ruth’s card #181 from the 1933 Goudey series. The three other players who appear on the card are McManus, Brandt, and Maranville. The puzzle section on the reverse is “Picture 1 Card J.” 1935 Goudeys are particularly hard to find in high grade. The color flush-to-the-border design makes them very susceptible to edge and corner wear. This is an unusually high grade example of Babe Ruth, with bright and flawless colors, clean front and back, no creases, and with virtually no chipping on the edges and corners. Downgraded by PSA due to a light factory print-line which runs horizontally across the top third of the card (not an extremely uncommon printing flaw with 1935 Goudeys) and little ruffling in the upper right corner (no paper loss or wear, just a tiny hint of paper folding up at extreme tip of corner). This is a very attractive (and for this issue fairly high grade) example of one of Babe Ruth’s most significant cards: his final card from his playing days. The SMR value is $1,100. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800+. SOLD FOR $1,292.50
