1934 R320 Goudey Complete Set (96)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $3,818.75

Very pleasing medium-grade complete set of 1934 R320 Goudey Gum. The 1934 Goudey, also commonly referred to as the "Lou Gehrig says..." set, is one of the most popular of all 1930s bubble-gum card issues. Included are stars such as Lou Gehrig (who appears on two cards, portrait and batting), Dizzy Dean, and Jimmy Foxx, among others, as well as the very scarce 24-card high-number (#73-96) series that has always made completing this classic set especially challenging for collectors. We have selected six cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: 1 Foxx (PSA VG 3 [MK], pencil marks on the back in the upper left corner), 2 Cochrane (Pr-Fr), 6 Dean (PSA GD+ 2.5), 7 Durocher (Vg-Ex), 10 Klein (PSA VG-EX 4), 11 Waner (Gd-Vg), 12 Hubbell (Vg), 13 Frisch (Vg-Ex), 18 Manush (Ex), 19 Grove (PSA VG-EX 4), 21 Terry (Vg-Ex), 22 Vaughan (Vg), 23 Gehringer (Vg-Ex), 27 Appling (Vg), 34 Hafey (Ex), 35 Lombardi (Vg-Ex), 37 Gehrig (PSA GOOD 2, nice-looking card with bright colors, no major creases just a couple light wrinkles visible from the back in the upper left corner), 61 Gehrig (PSA GOOD 2), 62 Greenberg (Vg-Ex). The condition of the 24 rare high numbers (#73-96) is as follows: seven cards range from Vg-Ex to Vg-Ex/Ex including #90 Cuyler (Vg-Ex); seventeen cards are Vg including #94 Rolfe and 96 DeShong. The balance of the cards grade 30% Ex (includes a few better), and 70% Vg to Vg-Ex. This is a very attractive complete set of this classic Goudey issue, which is highlighted by twenty Hall of Famers (including two Lou Gehrigs), and twenty-four scarce high-number series cards. Total 96 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $3,818.75
