1933 R319 Goudey #53 Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $2,937.50

Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. Very attractive low-grade example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards, #53 with yellow background from the 1933 Goudey series. We especially like to offer the most classic cards like this one in lower grades to show collectors that it is very possible (though it sometimes takes great patience) to collect extremely attractive vintage card classics on a relatively modest budget. The "yellow background" pose of Babe Ruth is perhaps his most sought-after card in the 1933 Goudey set. This is a very attractive example, bright and crisp, with even wear to the corners and virtually perfect registration (which can sometimes be a problem with this particular card). No creases. This card has been downgraded by SGC for the light spots of toning on the front and, even more for the period black ink notations on the back. The back is otherwise clean with bold green print set against an off-white background. We grade this card slightly higher than SGC at Good. This is a very presentable low-grade example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards from the popular 1933 Goudey Gum series. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $2,937.50
