1916 D303 Mother's Bread Joe Tinker

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,997.50

Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Extremely rare bakery card featuring a striking portrait image of Hall of Famer Joe Tinker set against a bold blue background. Issued in 1916 by the General Baking Company of New Orleans. Mother's Bread cards are so rare they are “off the radar” of most collectors. The Standard Catalog checklist for this set is incomplete and continues to be a work in progress. This card has a far superior appearance than suggested by its SGC GOOD 30 grade. The card has a Vg-Ex appearance, with just a little corner wear, virtually perfect gloss (a tiny surface scratch in the upper right), no creases, and has been downgraded by SGC only due to a few small areas of insignificant surface flaking on the reverse (not easily seen unless specifically searching for it and not affecting type; for some reason this appears to be a common flaw to this issue as we have seen this with other D303 Mother's Bread cards previously). This is an exceptionally sharp looking, very striking and clean Hall of Famer sample card from this rare prewar food issue. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,997.50
