1911 T205 Gold Borders Scarce Variations High-Grade PSA Collection (3)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $4,406.25

Extraordinary collection of three different extremely high grade tobacco cards from the 1911 T205 Gold Borders set, all very scarce variation cards, naturally in high demand by collectors assembling master T205 sets. Each card is graded and encapsulated by PSA: 1) Otis Crandall ("T" crossed in name). Graded NM 7 by PSA. Highest-graded example! Crandall “T’ crossed in name variation is an extremely scarce card in the T205 set. The card is bright and crisp with just the slightest hint of white showing at the extreme tips of the corners. Beautifully centered very slightly to the left. 2) Patsy Dougherty (white sock team emblem). Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. One of only six graded at this level by PSA. This card was issued with a "red sock" or “white sock” team emblem in the upper left corner. Clean and crisp card, with bold colors, flawless registration, and centered slightly to the left (approximately 35/65). The back is also bright and clean, with bold green advertising print for Sovereign Cigarettes. 3) A. Latham (A. Latham on back). Graded NM 7 by PSA. One of only two examples graded at this level with just two graded higher. This variation of Latham is also a rare card in the T205 set. This card has four sharp corners with a hint of white showing at the tips of the corners, no chipping to the gold borders except for a tiny flake on the right edge, perfect registration, and centered very slightly to the left border. The Polar Bear back has a few light tobacco stains (which is often the case with Polar Bear backs). The T205 Gold Border set is one of card collecting's most popular sets. They are also one of vintage card collecting's most condition-sensitive issues. Only 6% of all T205s ever graded by PSA have graded NM 7 or better (there are two in this collection). This is a significant group of particularly scarce high-grade T205s, assembled by a very discriminating collector with a concern for condition and eye appeal. These three cards would fill holes in most near-complete sets and provide upgrades to virtually any world-class master T205 set in the process of being assembled. The SMR value for the assigned grades is $3,975. Total 3 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $4,406.25
