1911 T205 Gold Borders Partial Set (167 Different)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $4,406.25

T205 Gold Borders partial set is comprised of 167 different cards (out of the 208 cards in the complete set) from this classic tobacco-card issue. All are different, and included are many Hall of Famers, rare cards, and minor leaguers. This is an original "childhood" collection, assembled in 1911 and saved in the family of the original owner. In fact, these cards are part of the Rochester, New York, collection which recently surfaced and was highlighted by an astounding thirty-six Clement Bros. Bread cards. The entire collection, which is presented in several lots in this auction, was saved by the father of our consignor, himself now an older gentleman. His family originally lived in Rochester, New York and his father personally got these cards in 1911. The condition overall ranges from Gd to Vg, with 15% Vg, 55% ranging from Good to Gd-Vg, and 30% Pr-Fr to Fr-Gd. Some cards have creases, but most have been downgraded due to the normal corner and edge wear from handling associated with T205 Gold Borders. Keys: Baker (Vg), Barger/full "B" (Vg), Bresnahan/mouth closed (Pr), Brown (Gd-Vg), Chance (Sovereign back, Vg), Chase/both ears gold frame extends (Vg), Chase/one ear (Gd), Cicotte/Black Sox (Vg), Clarke (Vg), Dougherty/white sock emblem (Gd-Vg), Duffy (Sovereign back, Vg), Evers (Sovereign back, Vg-Ex), Gray/stats on back (Vg), Griffith (Sovereign back, Vg), Harmon/left ear (Cycle back, Pr-Fr), Hoblitzell/"Cin" after 1908 stats (Gd-Vg), Huggins (Sovereign back, Vg), Jennings (Sovereign back, Vg), Johnson (Sovereign back, Fr-Gd), Kleinow (Gd), Latham/"A Latham" on back (Fr-Gd), Leifield/"AP" initials on front (Vg), Marquard (Pr), Mathewson (Sovereign back, Gd), McGraw (Fr), Raymond (Gd), Speaker (Gd), Suggs (Cycle back, Gd-Vg), Tinker (Sovereign back, Vg), Wheat (Vg), White/Pirates (Gd-Vg), Wilhelm/"suffered" in bio (Vg), and Young (Sovereign back, Gd-Vg). Minor Leaguers: Adkins (Pr), Cady (Fr-Gd), J. Collins (Vg), Frick (Gd-Vg), Hanford (Fr-Gd), Merritt (Gd), and Phelan (Fr). T205 Gold Borders in these grades are understandably extremely popular as they represent one of the best values in all of vintage-card collecting. This is a very attractive original collection, including numerous rare cards and nineteen Hall of Famers, and which would serve as an outstanding foundation for the assembly of a low- to mid-grade complete set. Total 167 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $4,406.25
