1910 E93 Standard Caramel Complete Set (30)

Starting Bid - $2,000.00 , Sold For - $10,575.00

Rarely seen complete set of E93. This 30-card set was issued in 1910 by the Standard Caramel Co. of Lancaster, PA. This set is closely related to several other candy sets from the era which share the same format and, in many cases, the same player image. Like most 1910-era tobacco and "E" card issues, E93 Standard Caramel Company cards each measure approximately 1.5 x 2.75 inches. The set is comprised almost exclusively of Hall of Famers and stars. All of the cards have been graded and encapsulated by either PSA or SGC: Two VG-EX: Johnny Evers (SGC 50) and Eddie Plank (PSA 4). Sixteen VG: Chief Bender (SGC 40), Mordecai Brown (PSA 3), Chase (PSA 3), Fred Clarke (SGC 40), Eddie Collins (SGC 40), Coveleski (PSA 3), Delehanty (PSA 3), Donovan (SGC 40), Gibson (SGC 40), Clark Griffith (PSA 3), Hughie Jennings (PSA 3), Addie Joss (PSA 3), Nap Lajoie (PSA 3), Pastorious (SGC 40), Phillippe (PSA 3), and Wiltse (SGC 40). Ten GOOD: Ames (PSA 2), Frank Chance (PSA 2), Ty Cobb (Beckett 2, Cobb’s image is perfectly registered against a striking orange background), Dooin (PSA 2), Jones (SGC 30), Leach (SGC 30), Joe Tinker (SGC 30), Rube Waddell (SGC 30), Honus Wagner (SGC 30, bright and clean, both front and back, with crisp colors, and perfect registration), and Cy Young (PSA 2). Two FAIR: John McGraw (SGC 20) and Christy Mathewson (SGC 20). This set is in exceptionally fine condition with most cards appearing better than their technically accurate PSA- and SGC-assigned grades. Because they were issued with candy to kids, one card per package, these cards tend to survive in far lesser condition than their more common tobacco-card counterparts. This is a magnificent, rarely seen, and very carefully assembled complete set of E93 Standard Caramel, one of the most popular and colorful of all "E" card issues. Total 30 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$8,000. SOLD FOR $10,575.00
