1910 E90-3 American Caramel Near-Complete SGC-Graded Set (19 of 20)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $4,406.25

Presented is an extremely rare near-complete set of 1910 E90-3 American Caramel: nineteen different of the twenty cards in the set (missing only Chance for completion), all graded by SGC. The E90-3 American Caramel set is actually even rarer than the E90-1 series (except for the key rare cards in the set) or the E90-2 Pittsburgh series cards. This is truly a set unto itself, slightly different in design from the other American Caramel cards and featuring only Cubs and White Sox players, including Hall of Famers Mordecai Brown, Joe Tinker, Johnny Evers, and Ed Walsh, as well as future "Black Sox" star Chic Gandil. Sometimes we think this set is a little overlooked simply because the set is rare and the prefix of its catalog designation (E90) is shared by E90-1 and E90-2, both sets which are actively collected and get all the attention. In thirty-eight years of specializing in vintage cards, we have never had a complete set of E90-3 to offer. We can't say that about too many early sets. This is an amazing low-grade collection of these extremely distinctive and rare "E" cards, representing 19 of the 20 cards in the set. SGC grading composite: Three GOOD 30: Overall, Purtell, and Zeider. One FAIR 20: Sheckard. Twelve POOR 10: Blackburne, Cole, Dougherty, Johnny Evers (HOF), Gandil (“Black Sox”), Hahn, Payne, Schulte, Smith, Steinfeldt, Joe Tinker (HOF, green background), and Ed Walsh (HOF). Three Authentic: Archer, Mordecai Brown (HOF, Nagy Collection), and Hofman. The "Nagy Collection" designation on Hall of Famer Mordecai Brown in this group refers to the fact that this card was part of the collection of Frank Nagy, one of organized card collecting's most respected pioneers. A rare opportunity to acquire a near-complete set of nineteen different cards (out of twenty in the set) of one of the rarest of all 1910-era candy issues. Total 19 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,406.25
