1910 PC796 Sepia Postcard Collection Including Wagner, Johnson, Lajoie (11 Different)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $10,575.00

Collection of eleven different cards from the rare PC796 sepia postcard set issued in 1910, highlighted by six Hall of Famers, including Wagner, Lajoie, and Johnson. This group has just recently been discovered by a noncollecting family looking through its old family papers. This is an impressive collection, all the more so as the entire set includes only twenty-five cards. The manufacturer of this sepia-toned postcard series is unknown. The PC796 set is one of the most striking of the era. We have selected five cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. The collection is comprised of the following: Roger Bresnahan (HOF, SGC GOOD 30), Bridwell (Vg), Mordecai Brown (HOF, SGC VG 40), Chase (Vg), Gibson (Fr-Gd), Hoffman (Vg), Walter Johnson (HOF, SGC VG 40), Nap Lajoie (HOF, Pr-Fr, some chipping in the upper left corner and a few stains on the reverse, still a nice-looking card), Lord (Vg), Honus Wagner (HOF, SGC GOOD 30), and Ed Walsh (HOF, SGC VG 40). Technically in low-to-mid grade, most cards in the collection (especially the five SGC-graded Hall of Famers) have a far better overall appearance than is suggested by the condition report. This is a very attractive group of these rare and distinctive postcards, with six of the eleven cards featuring Hall of Famers. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Total 11 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $10,575.00
