1910 E125 American Caramel Die-cut Cy Seymour

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,057.50

Rare E125 American Caramel sample card featuring outfielder Cy Seymour from the New York Giants of the National League. The card has an Excellent appearance, but is technically Good due to a light neck crease and three very small areas of surface paper loss on his jersey. The reverse, with advertisement and checklist, is bright and clean. The stand-up tabs are all intact and have never even been folded back. E125 die-cuts are among the rarest of all 1910-era candy issues. No full set is known to exist, and due to their considerable rarity, even the checklisting of the set is still a work in progress some ninety years after its issue. Seymour began his career as a pitcher in 1896; by his third season (1898) he won 25 games. A strong hitter, he would occasionally play the outfield when not pitching, and by 1901 he was a regular outfielder. In 1905 with the Reds he led the National League in batting average, RBIs, hits, doubles, and triples. Traded to the Giants the next year, he played regularly for McGraw's pennant contenders. With his .303 lifetime batting average in sixteen seasons, one could argue that he's a candidate for the Hall of Fame. This is an exceptional sample from this rare and unique 1910-era baseball die-cut caramel-card set. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,057.50
