Three Classic Circa 1910 Baseball Postcards Including Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Joe Tinker

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $940.00

Collection of three very high-quality baseball postcards (each 3.5 x 5.5 inches), two featuring team images and one an automobile advertisement with Cubs shortstop Joe Tinker. 1) 1907 Detroit Tigers Real-Photo Postcard. The photo captures nineteen members of the American League Champion Detroit Tigers including Ty Cobb, manager Hughie Jennings, Sam Crawford, and “Wild Bill” Donovan. A number is written on the image of each player in black fountain pen that corresponds to a numbered list of the players' names written on the reverse. The black ink notation “World’s Champions 1907 – Just keep your eye on Donovan” is written along right front border. Mailed, with a postmark dated September 20, 1907. Vg-Ex. 2) 1908 Pittsburgh Pirates Cigar Advertising Postcard. The postcard features portrait images of twelve members of the 1908 Pittsburgh Pirates including Honus Wagner, Fred Clarke, and Tommy Leach. Above is an advertisement for Masterpiece Jockey Club five-cent cigars. The caption along the bottom reads “The Pirates – Pittsburg’s Great Baseball Team 1908.” The reverse has additional advertising, for a local Pittsburgh store ("Raubitschek's") that apparently sold Pirates game tickets, and also for Liberty Havana Cigars. This is a rare card featuring a great team, but the fact that this postcard so prominently advertises tobacco and the team includes Wagner gives this card an added dimension of interest. Never mailed. Ex. 3) Circa 1912 Joe Tinker Case Automobile Advertising Postcard. Advertising postcard for Case Motor Cars pictures Tinker seated in his new car with famous race car driver Barney Oldfield. The caption below reads “Barney Oldfield at wheel giving Joe Tinker Cub shortstop his first lesson in running his new Chase Car." Never mailed. Excellent. Total 3 postcards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $940.00
