1887-1889 N172 Old Judge Collection Including Rare Tim Keefe variation (8)

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,175.00

Collection of eight N172 Old Judge cards, highlighted by the extremely rare Tim Keefe misspelled name variation. Hall of Famer Tim Keefe's last name is misspelled as "KEEF" on this card. This variation is so rare that it is literally the first example we have ever seen (and we've seen thousands of Old Judges), and to the best of our knowledge is one of only two examples in existence. The card has had the ad trimmed along the bottom and has been rebacked, but has excellent contrast and displays very well. The balance of the cards in this small group are as follows: Mullane/Cinn. (1888 copyright. Ex), Whitney/NY (Vg-Ex), Buckley/Indianapolis (1888 copyright. Gd), Dwyer/Chicago (1888 copyright. Vg.), Glasscock/Indianapolis (1888 copyright. Fr), Horning/Boston (Fr with pinhole), and Krock/Chicago (1888 copyright. Gd). The grades listed above are without reference to the purple ink stamp with the name of the original owner ("George H. Mayer") on the back of each card. An interesting group of mostly low- to mid-grade Old Judges, highlighted by a couple much stronger examples, and the exceptionally rare Tim Keefe variation. Total 8 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
