1953 Topps #82 Mickey Mantle GAI EX-MT 6

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,350.00

Graded EX-MT 6 by GAI. Very attractive high-grade example of Mickey Mantle's second Topps card. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's second Topps card is the key to the 1953 Topps set, and one of the most popular of all postwar baseball cards. This striking example is bright and clean, both front and back, has square corners showing just the slightest hint of wear, with particularly strong colors, and is well centered just slightly to the left. On the reverse at the top right corner there is a tiny area (the size of half a dime) of what appears to be a small spot of clear glue, so minor that we hesitate to even mention this, and which is visible only when the card is held in hand and turned at the proper angle in bright light. We suspect that if not for this, GAI might have graded this beautiful card NR/MT. This is mentioned strictly for the sake of extreme accuracy and, as is apparent online in the scan of the reverse, cannot even be seen unless you are actually holding the card and are specifically looking for it. This is a very sharp-looking card, especially for 1953 Topps, an issue that is so condition-sensitive due to its flush-to-the-border design. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $2,350.00
