1953 Bowman Color PSA-Graded Complete Set (160)

Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $11,162.50

Spectacular high-grade complete set of 1953 Bowman Color. Every card in the set has been graded by PSA: 144 of the 160 cards in this complete set have been graded EX-MT 6, fifteen cards are graded NM 7, and one single card (#56 Durocher) is graded MINT 9 (OC). This is an extraordinary set, high quality throughout, and with a simply amazing degree of consistency. A tremendous amount of time and energy has been invested in the assembly of this high-grade set, with an eye for all condition factors including centering, and also with an eye for value. The grade of this set is considered the "sweet spot" for value by many collectors. The SMR for an across-the-board PSA 6 set is $13,000, and this does not begin to take into account the time and effort required to assemble a set in this grade, especially since strong PSA-graded EX-MT 6 cards represent such an extraordinary value compared with slightly higher-grade examples. We have registered this set on the PSA registry under "Robert Edward Auctions #2." It is the fourteenth-highest graded set out of thirty-seven registered sets, with an average grade of 6.06. PSA grading composite: One MINT 9: #56 Durocher (OC). Fifteen NM 7: #12 Erskine, 14 Loes, 20, 35, 37, 49, 56, 66, 73, 75, 80 Kiner, 95, 105, 122, and 157. 144 cards are graded EX-MT 6: including #1 Williams, 9 Rizzuto, 10 Ashburn, 18 Fox, 32 Musial, 33 Reese, 40 Doby, 44 Bauer/Berra/Mantle, 46 Campanella, 59 Mantle, 62 Kluszewski, 65 Roberts, 81 Slaughter, 92 Hodges, 93 Rizzuto/Martin, 97 Mathews, 99 Spahn, 114 Feller, 117 Snider, 118 Martin, 121 Berra, 143 Lopez, 146 Wynn, and 160 Abrams. This set was assembled one card at a time by a very dedicated collector over a period of many years. This is an extraordinary entirely graded high-grade complete set of this classic early Bowman issue. Total 160 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $11,162.50
