1953 Topps Complete Set (274)

Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $4,406.25

37% grade Excellent (with a few slightly better), 63% range from Vg to Vg-Ex. This is a very attractive mid-grade complete set of 1953 Topps. This is the type of vintage set that to many collectors represents the very best value. The cards are classic, they look great, and they don't cost a fortune compared to higher-grade cards. In many cases, in the highest grades, a few commons from an early 1950s set can be valued at more than an entire set such as this, and when it comes time to selling, a set such as this will actually generate far more interest by collectors as well, precisely because it is more affordable. We have selected eight cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: 1 Robinson (PSA EX-MT 6), 10 Burgess SP (Vg/Vg-Ex), 27 Campanella (PSA EX-MT 6), 37 Mathews (Vg), 41 Slaughter (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex), 43 McDougald (PSA NM 7), 54 Feller (Vg-Ex), 61 Wynn SP (Vg), 62 Irvin (Vg), 76 Reese (Vg), 77 Mize (Vg-Ex/Ex), 78 Schoendienst (Vg), 81 Black SP (30/70 L/R, otherwise Vg-Ex), 82 Mantle (PSA PR-FR 1), 86 Martin (PSA Ex 5), 87 Lopat (30/70 L/R, otherwise Vg), 104 Berra (Vg), 114 Rizzuto (Vg), 119 Sain SP (miscut along the top border, otherwise Ex), 138 Kell (Vg), 147 Spahn (Vg), 149 DiMaggio (Vg-Ex), 151 Wilhelm (90/10 L/R, otherwise Ex), 162 Klu (Vg), 191 Kiner (Ex), 207 Ford (PSA EX 5), 220 Paige (PSA VG-EX 4), 228 Newhouser (paper loss along the right border, otherwise Ex), 244 Mays (PSA GOOD 2), 246 Face (Vg-Ex), 254 Roe (miscut along top border, otherwise Ex), 258 Gilliam SP (paper loss on reverse, otherwise Vg), 263 Podres SP (Vg/Vg-Ex), 265 Jensen SP (Vg-Ex), 273 Haddix SP (10/90 L/R, otherwise Ex), 280 Bolling (Ex). This is an exceptionally attractive medium-grade set, far above average for this issue, with tremendous eye appeal across the board. Total 274 cards. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000.
