1952 Topps #407 Ed Mathews

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,231.25

Graded EX+ 5.5 by GAI. In addition to being his rookie card, 1952 Topps card #407 Eddie Mathews is also one of only a few key Hall of Famers in the rare high-number series, and as the last card in the set, is also a condition rarity. Just as card #1 Pafko was subject to wear due to gravitating to the top of the pile, #407 Mathews was also subject to excessive wear at the bottom of the pile. In anything even resembling high grade, this has always been a very difficult card for anyone putting together a quality 1952 Topps set. The image on the front of the offered #407 Mathews is exceptionally well centered, which is especially desirable as this is usually not the case with this card. The card has the slightest hint of discoloration on the top border, visible only upon close examination (so light you have to be looking for it to see it), and very light even touches of wear on all four corners. The reverse of the card is perfectly clean with bold print. Solid Ex+ card with fantastic eye appeal. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,231.25
