1948 Leaf #1 Joe DiMaggio PSA EX-MT 6

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,175.00

Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. High-grade example of this significant condition rarity which is also one of DiMaggio’s most popular cards. Considering the fragile cardboard used in the production of the 1948 Leaf issue and the usually excessive wear the #1 card is subjected to, the high grade of this card is all the more impressive. This is also DiMaggio's only postwar bubble-gum card issued during his playing days (he did not allow cards of himself to be printed by Topps or Bowman), giving this card an all the greater significance. The offered example is perfectly crisp and clean, with four sharp corners, perfectly crisp printing registration, deep, bold colors, and off-white borders. The reverse is perfectly crisp and clean, without even the slightest trace of gum staining which so frequently affects 1948 Leafs. Centered 80/20 top-to-bottom, which is most likely responsible for this gem not receiving a Nr/Mt or better grade. This is a very attractive high-grade example of one of the key cards from the 1948 Leaf set and one of the most popular cards of the era. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
