1934 R304 Al Demaree Die-Cut #86 Travis Jackson PSA NM-MT 8

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,115.00

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Only "1 of 1" graded by PSA with no other examples at any level graded by PSA. Extremely rare R304 Demaree Die-Cut of Hall of Famer Travis Jackson of the New York Giants. Issued by Chicago’s Dietz Gum Company in 1934, Demaree die-cuts are among the rarest of all 1930s gum issues. No full set is known to exist, and due to their considerable rarity, even the check listing of the set is still a work-in-progress some seventy plus years after its issue. R304s' unusual design combines black-and-white photographic player portraits with cartoon body art drawn by former Major League pitcher Al Demaree. Not only are these cards extremely rare, but also their fragile die-cut design makes them virtually nonexistent in Near Mint or better condition. The offered example of this Hall of Famer is a rare exception. In fact, this card is the highest graded and ONLY PSA NM-MT 8 R304 example for any player ever graded. Perfectly clean, both front and back, with standup tab never folded, bright and crisp colors, flawless registration, and just a hint of a light stain in one small spot on the reverse (of no consequence and mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy). R304s have always been held in the highest esteem by advanced collectors both for their extreme rarity, as well as for their very striking and unique design. This is a magnificent high-grade Hall of Famer example of one of card collecting's rarest and most interesting 1930s gum issues. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,115.00
