1933 DeLong Gum Complete Set PSA Graded (24)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,993.75

Extremely attractive complete set of this classic 1930s prewar gum issue, entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA. DeLongs have always held a special place in the hearts of collectors. The small size of the set, its relative rarity compared to most others card sets of the era, its unique dimensions and design, and its status as a “one-year issue” all combine to make DeLongs one of the most highly regarded of all 1930s issues among serious collectors. The PSA grades are as follows: Three EX 5: #13 Maranville (HOF), 17 Martin, and 23 Grove (HOF). Eight VG-EX 4: #1 McManus, 2 Simmons (HOF), 5 Gehringer (HOF), 6 Cochrane (HOF), 18, 19 Hafey (HOF), 21 Foxx (HOF), and 22 Klein (HOF). Ten Vg 3: #3, 4 Terry (HOF), 8 Cuyler (HOF), 9, 10 O'Doul, 11 Lindstrom (HOF), 12 Traynor, 15, 20, and 24 Goslin (HOF, last card in set). Two GOOD 2: #14 Gomez (HOF) and 16. One PR-FR 1: #7 Gehrig (HOF, bright and clean, with bold colors, light to moderate creasing, and centered to the extreme right; great-looking card for the grade). As is usually the case, vintage cards which are graded in the Good to Very Good range by PSA are usually extremely attractive cards. That is certainly the case with this complete set, which presents a rarely offered relatively affordable alternative to a higher-grade set. A set of DeLongs does not just come together all by itself. This set is the result of a tremendous amount of work, with great thought given to overall eye appeal and value. The fact that the Gehrig card, which alone can make this set unaffordable, is an exceptionally attractive card even though it is in a low grade, is a tremendous plus. This is a very clean and attractive mixed-grade set of these 1930s classics. The SMR value for just the three PSA EX 5s and eight VG-EX 4s (not including the ten VG 3s, two GOOD 2s, and one PR-FR 1 Gehrig) is $2,360. Total 24 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $4,993.75
