1933 DeLong Gum Near-Complete Set PSA-Graded (19 of 24 cards in set plus 11 duplicates)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,525.00

Near-complete set of 1933 DeLong Gum comprised of nineteen different of the twenty-four cards in the set, plus eleven duplicates, for a total of thirty cards. All are graded by PSA (unless otherwise noted). DeLongs have always held a special place in the hearts of collectors. The small size of the set, their relative rarity compared to most others card sets of the era, their unique dimensions and design, and their status as a “one-year issue” all combine to give DeLongs a mystique among serious collectors. The near-set (19 of 24 cards) is comprised of the following: #1 McManus (GOOD 2), 2 Simmons (PR-FR 1), 4 Terry (VG-EX 4), 5 Gehringer (GOOD 2), 6 Cochrane (GOOD 2), 8 Cuyler (VG-EX 4), 9 (VG-EX 4), 12 Traynor (VG 3), 13 Maranville (VG-EX 4 [MC]), 14 Gomez (VG-EX 4), 15 (VG-EX 4), 16 (VG-EX 4), 17 Martin (EX-MT 6 [MC]), 18 (NM 7 [OC]), 19 Hafey (GOOD 2), 20 (SGC VG-EX 50), 22 Klein (EX 5), 23 Grove (PR-FR 1), and 24 Goslin (PR-FR 1). The near-set is missing only the following five cards for completion: #3 Mellilo, 7 Gehrig, 10 O'Doul, 11 Lindstrom, and 21 Foxx. The eleven duplicates are as follows: #1 McManus (PR-FR 1), 4 Terry (GOOD 2), 5 Gehringer (PR-FR 1), 6 Cochrane (PR-FR 1), 9 (VG 3), 12 Traynor (SGC VG 40), 16 (GOOD 2), 17 Martin (SGC GOOD 30), 18 (VG 3), 20 (VG 3), and 22 Klein (VG-EX 4). As is usually the case, vintage cards which are graded in the Good to Very Good range by PSA are usually extremely attractive cards. That is certainly the case with this near-set, which presents beautifully and represents a rarely offered relatively affordable alternative to a higher-grade set. This is a very clean and attractive group, including seventeen Hall of Famers, and missing only five cards for the completion of a very pleasing mid-grade set of these 1930s classics. Total 30 cards (nineteen different plus eleven duplicates). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $3,525.00
