1921 E121 American Caramel (Series of 80) Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,292.50

Graded EX 60 by SGC. E121 American Caramel of Ty Cobb, one of the key cards from one of the classic caramel sets of the early 1920s. Cobb is featured in full uniform in a throwing pose. When this card was issued, Cobb was one of the game's greatest legends but was still very much in his prime. In 1921 Cobb stepped up to the plate 507 times and batted an extraordinary .389, second only to Harry Heilmann (.394 average). E121 American Caramel cards are rarely found this sharp, especially since these cards were sold in packs of caramel to youngsters, one card per package. Bright and clean, both front and back, with even corner wear, outstanding picture quality, and perfectly centered. This is an extremely attractive high-grade example of Ty Cobb dating from one of his best hitting seasons, issued by American Caramel during an era in which there were very few card sets issued. The SMR is $650, which seems very low, suggesting to us that either the SMR is wrong (likely), or this card is currently very undervalued. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,292.50
