1921-1929 Babe Ruth Exhibit Card Collection (5)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,406.25

Impressive collection of five different prewar Exhibit cards, spanning the years of 1921 to 1929, representing five different issues, all featuring Hall of Famer Babe Ruth, all graded by PSA. 1) 1921 Exhibit Supply Co. The key card from the set and one of Ruth's earliest cards featuring him with the Yankees. Bright and crisp, with no creases, and outstanding picture quality. Neatly written vintage notations in ink cover the entire reverse, detailing Ruth's biographical info and stats from 1915-1928. This writing and remnants of a small stamp in the corner of the reverse is responsible for PSA not assigning a numerical grade to this card, which is encapsulated as "Authentic," but is otherwise in Vg-Ex/Ex condition. 2) 1922 Eastern Exhibit Supply Co. (VG-EX 4). The key card to this rare sepia-toned set issued by the Eastern Exhibit Supply Co. of Philadelphia. The card is designed with a postcard-style back. Cards from this unusual and distinctive 20-card Exhibit-style set are rarer than the B&W Exhibit cards of the same era. Perfectly clean front and back. Looks Ex. 3) 1925 Exhibit Supply Co. (GOOD 2). The key card to the 1925 Exhibit card set features Ruth in his classic follow-through swing. A small white box in the lower left corner has the printed notation “Geo. H. “Babe” Ruth – Outfield – New York, A.L. –(Made in USA).” This card has been downgraded by PSA due two minor tape marks on the blank reverse, otherwise Vg/Vg-Ex. 4) 1929-1930 Four-On-One Exhibit: Durocher/Gehrig/Koenig/Ruth (EX 5). In 1929 the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago changed the design of its cards and began issuing “4 on 1” Exhibits featuring four different players per card, all from the same team. This is the key card from that first year “4 on 1” set and features photos of Yankee standouts Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Leo Durocher and Mark Koenig. This is a great card! 5) Circa 1929 Exhibit Style Card (VG 3 [MK], qualified for pencil notation “22” on the back). Classic Exhibit-style card was actually issued by a small competitor of the Exhibit Supply Company. The postcard format reverse includes the warning: “Not To be Used In Exhibit Machines.” We have always felt this was one of Ruth’s most impressive cards. Never mailed. Crisp and clean front and back. A little corner and edge wear. This is a very difficult to assemble collection of five high-quality cards featuring Babe Ruth (and including one featuring Lou Gehrig) from five different rare Exhibit (or Exhibit style) issues. Total 5 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,406.25
