1919 T213 Coupon Cigarettes Ty Cobb (Type 3)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,525.00

Graded EX 60 by SGC. T213 (Type 3) Coupon Cigarette card of Ty Cobb, the key card to this elusive and extremely rare tobacco set. In addition, this is the extremely rare overprint variety, with the "Factory No. 3, Dist. of LA." overprinted with black, and "Factory No. 8. Dist. of LA." added above. All "Factory No. 8" overprint backs are particularly rare, and this is the first example of Cobb that we can recall seeing. T213 Coupon Cigarettes are one of the most interesting, rarest, and most overlooked of all tobacco card issues. Similar in design and borrowing the same images as T206, T213 (Type 3) is believed to have been issued exclusively in the Louisiana area, and was the very last of the traditional tobacco card sets. The set was issued in 1919. This is a very attractive example, which appears to be in stronger than Excellent condition, but is kept from a higher grade due to its 25/75 L/R centering (Note: centering issues are characteristic of the cards from this set, which were naturally printed with narrower borders than other tobacco card issues). Bright, crisp, clean, with no creases, and four square corners with just the slightest hint of wear. T213 (Type 3) Coupons are far rarer than their T206 counterparts. This is an exceptional example of one of Cobb's rarest and most interesting tobacco cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,525.00
