1915 T214 Victory Tobacco SGC-Graded Collection (4)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $5,875.00

Collection of four extremely rare 1915 T214 Victory Tobacco cards. The Victory set is an obscure series of tobacco cards, issued exclusively in the Louisiana area, which is sometimes mistaken for the T206 "White Border" set. They are without question one of the rarest of all baseball tobacco issues. The Victory Tobacco set has a special significance over and above its great rarity, as it is one of the few sets which feature players from the Federal League, in addition to featuring National and American Leaguers. Offered are four cards from this rare tobacco issue (including three Federal Leaguers), each graded and encapsulated by SGC: Crandall, St. Louis Fed. (POOR 10), Groom, St. Louis Fed. (POOR 10), Murray, New York Nat. (GOOD 30, tiny corner chip in the upper right), and Smith, Baltimore Fed. (POOR 10, some light creasing; a much nicer card than suggested by the SGC grade, we grade this card Good). Smith is a particularly interesting card in that this same pose, with the team designation of "Chicago and Boston," is a scarce card in the T206 set. Victory Tobacco cards have a glossy coated surface which is very susceptible to creasing. Despite the assigned grades, these are still very attractive examples, with great looking backs, which is especially desirable for samples of this rare issue. In the previous three years, we had a total of only two T214 Victorys (one in 2004 and one in 2005). Total 4 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $5,875.00
