1910 E125 American Caramel Die-cuts Philadelphia Athletics Collection (7)

Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $18,800.00

This collection of seven E125 American Caramel cards, each representing a player from the Philadelphia Athletics (seven of the eleven cards comprising a complete team subset), is highlighted by Hall of Famer Chief Bender as well as many extreme rarities, including the only example known to date of Harry Krause. The lot consists of Jack Barry (strong Ex-Mt appearance, but technically Vg-Ex due to several tiny surface creases), Chief Bender (one of only two known to exist; both are missing the glove and left tab, technically Gd condition), Harry Davis (light stain on the right tab and pencil marks on the reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex), Topsy Hartzell (Ex), Harry Krause (only example known to exist; light stain on the lower right tab, Vg-Ex), Rube Oldring (the bat has several creases and has been reinforced with cardboard on the reverse, otherwise Ex), and Ira Thomas (tiny wrist crease, otherwise Ex-Mt). The stand-up tabs are all intact (with the exception of one tab as noted) and have never been folded back. Issued in 1910 by the American Caramel Co. one card per box of caramels, E125s vary slightly in size from card to card, depending on the player’s pose. Most are approximately 7 inches high and 4 inches wide. They were designed as "stand-up" cards with fold-back tabs to allow the players to stand on their own. This is superb group of these extraordinary caramel cards, which are highly prized by serious collectors for their great rarity and their very striking and unique design. Total 7 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000. SOLD FOR $18,800.00
