1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Topsy Hartsell (Hartsel)

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $3,231.25

Graded VG-EX 4 (MK) by PSA. Rare and very strong condition (for this issue) sample card from the legendary E107 Breisch-Williams series of outfielder Topsy Hartsel from the Philadelphia Athletics of the American League. Well centered, no creases, with a very clean and crisp portrait, and a clean back with a couple of tiny spots and an insignificant light pencil mark (reading "9") in the upper left corner of the reverse responsible for the "MK" qualifier. Issued in 1903, this classic prewar issue is the only major baseball-card set of the era, and is particularly significant to advanced collectors as it includes many players that appear in no other card set. E107s also foreshadow the basic design which many tobacco- and candy-card sets utilized in the years ahead. Over time, the E107s have really been universally recognized by serious collectors as one of the most significant of all card issues. This is a very attractive high-grade sample from this rare and important set. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $3,231.25
