Pre-1900 Card Collection of Five Including 2 Hall of Famers

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,972.00

Collection comprised of two Hall of Famers and three non-Hall of Famers from two different classic nineteenth-century issues: N172 Old Judge and N28 Allen & Ginter. All five cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC. 1) 1887-89 N172 Old Judge (2 cards): Bob Caruthers/Brooklyns (GOOD 30), 1889 copyright, no creases, square corners, strong contrast, downgraded due to a tiny surface scrape below his chin on the front and two small, barely detectable areas of surface paper loss on reverse resulting from tape removal, Ex appearance. Ned Williamson/Chicagos (VG 40), 1887 copyright date, no creases, small stain above his right shoulder and glue stains on reverse, front has Vg-Ex appearance. 2) 1888 N28 Allen & Ginter (3 cards): R. L. Caruthers (VG 40), front has Ex appearance, no creases, downgraded due to extremely minor hint of paper loss on the back which is almost undetectable without a high powered lens); John Clarkson - HOF (VG/EX 50), with a single corner crease in the top left. Clean front and back. Tim Keefe - HOF (VG 40), centered slightly to-the-left, with a few light surface wrinkles along the right, and a light crease visible along the top border of the reverse. This is a very attractive collection of five quality pre-1900 cards, most with eye appeal far superior to their technically accurate grades. Total 5 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,972.00
