Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris Signed Golf Ball

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $696.00

A Dunlop golf ball provides the venue here for the signatures of the famed "M&M Boys," Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Mantle's signature has been scripted in black marker, while Maris', which runs perpendicular to Mantle's, has been executed in blue marker. As anyone who has ever tried to sign a golf ball knows, the dimpled surface makes for a less-than-ideal writing surface. Despite that inherent disadvantage, both signatures remain perfectly legible. The Mantle signature is the stronger of the two, grading "8." Maris' signature exhibits a few breaks caused by the dimples and grades "6." While no "story" accompanies this ball, it was most likely signed during a golf tournament attended by the two sluggers. Both were avid golfers and attended many events. Maris, in fact, founded his own annual celebrity golfing tournament, a fund-raiser for his alma mater, Shanley High School of Fargo, N.D. The ball is in Excellent condition overall. We can't imagine that either Maris or Mantle had occasion to sign many golf balls, let alone both together on a single ball. This is a very unusual, possibly unique Mantle/Maris signed "ball" and one that makes for an interesting conversation piece. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $696.00
