1961 New York Yankees Single-Signed Ball Collection (37)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,190.00

While a 1961 New York Yankees team ball will be found in nearly every prestigious private baseball collection, very few will also feature the opposite of that most desired relic: balls individually signed by every member of that historic team. In fact, we are not sure if we have ever seen a complete collection of 1961 Yankees single-signed balls. Offered here, in this amazing collection, is a unique opportunity to acquire the fruits of an extremely advanced 1961 Yankees collector's efforts toward this goal. This grouping is comprised of thirty-six single-signed baseballs, each bearing the signature of a different member of the 1961 New York Yankees. Ideally, many of the signers have also added an additional inscription on the ball making reference to the 1961 season. Included are not just the players, but also coaches, and even the bat boys. The only six players (out of the thirty-six on the roster) not represented in this collection are Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle, Elston Howard, Deron Johnson, Duke Maas, and Earl Torgeson. Almost all the work has been done, however, and these missing six, of course, could easily be filled in. In order to compensate for the exclusion of both a Maris and Mantle single, the consignor has also included an OAL (MacPhail) ball signed by Maris (on the sweet spot), Mantle, Berra, and Ford. Unless otherwise noted, all of the players have scripted their names in blue ink upon the sweet spot, with some having added additional inscriptions on a side panel. All of the balls are Official American League (Budig) balls, with the exception of two (Brown). The following players are represented in this collection: Berra (Berra has included a number of his important career statistics and achievements on the ball), Ford, Turley, Reed, Coates, McDevitt, Gonder, Lopez, Houk (manager), Daley, James, Hale, Crosetti (coach), Sheldon, Skowron, Tresh, Terry, Arroyo (on a side panel), Gardner, DeMaestri, Blanchard, Richardson, Downing, Reniff, Thomas, Duren, Stafford (on a side panel), Murray (coach), Sain (coach), Cerv, Boyer, Kubek, Clevenger, Ditmar, Bengris (bat boy) and Prudenti (bat boy). All of the balls are in Near Mint condition, with approximately 40% displaying some extremely minor age-toning. Total: 37 balls (36 single-signed and one multi-signed). It would be hard to imagine a finer near-set of 1961 Yankees single-signed balls. After the few missing players are filled in, this collection will make for a simply stunning and ideal tribute to the legendary 1961 Yankees that would be worthy of prominent display the finest collection in the world.LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,190.00
