1956 Brooklyn Dodgers Team-Signed Baseball With Robinson and Campanella

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,392.00

Dating from Jackie Robinson's final season in the majors, this official National League (Giles) ball has been signed in blue ink by the following twenty-four members of the 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers: Walt Alston (sweet spot), Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Pee Wee Reese, Gil Hodges, Erskine, Mitchell, Maglie, Roebuck, Newcombe (clubhouse), Labine, Craig, Kipp, Furillo, Neal, Walker, Jackson, Don Zimmer (twice, one is clubhouse), Amoros (clubhouse), Howell (clubhouse), Gilliam (clubhouse), and Snider (clubhouse). The notation "1956 Dodgers" is printed in red ink upon the ball label. The signatures are extraordinarily strong, grading "9/10," and contrast beautifully against the off-white surface of the ball. This ball was obviously signed late in the season, as the Dodgers acquired Dale Mitchell on July 29th to help them during the pennant stretch. Although the 1956 season marked Mitchell's final season in the majors, he later immortalized his name by becoming the final out in Don Larsen's World Series perfect game that fall. Despite the presence of several clubhouse signatures (common for most Dodgers balls from the era), this ball features extraordinary examples of all of the key signatures (Robinson, Campy, Alston, Drysdale, and Reese; the only exception being Snider) and remains a spectacular memento commemorating Jackie Robinson's final season in professional baseball. A light coat of protective shellac has been selectively applied over the surface and the ball displays two small areas of light age toning, it is otherwise in Near Mint condition. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,392.00
