1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Champions Team-Signed Baseball

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,508.00

Official National League (Giles) ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty-five members of the 1955 World Champion Brooklyn Dodgers: Alston (sweet spot), Robinson, Campanella, Reese, Snider, Koufax, Hodges, Amoros, Furillo (clubhouse), Walker, Newcombe, Shuba, Zimmer, Hoak, Howell, Kellert, Gilliam, Bessent, Roebuck, Podres (on ball label), Erskine, Labine, Loes, Spooner and Craig. The notations "Brooklyn Dodgers" and "1955 World Champs" have been neatly printed in vintage black ink, respectively, above and below Alston's signature on the sweet spot. The signatures (some of which have some very slight bleeding) range in grade from "5" to "9", averaging "7." As most collector's are aware, the "key" signature on this ball is neither Robinson nor Campanella, but Karl Spooner. Spooner only played with the Dodgers for one year, 1955, thus clearly dating the ball to the club's only World Championship season in Brooklyn. The ball is moderately toned and has been coated with a heavy layer of protective shellac that displays a few minor chips. Very Good to Excellent condition. This is a relatively affordable mid-grade team-signed ball of one of baseball's "magic teams," and, in part because of the bold identifying period notations, this is an example which has an appearance which is particularly impressive for display. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,508.00
