1942 Walter Johnson Signed Check

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $3,480.00

Full canceled check, dating from 1942, filled out and signed by Walter Johnson ("8/9"). It was not until the past few years that Walter Johnson personal checks were finally released by the Johnson family. Prior to this, Walter Johnson checks were virtually nonexistent in the collecting world. In total, approximately 300 checks survived and have been sold by the Johnson family. They are all gone. Three hundred may sound like a lot, but it is actually a very modest number compared with the quantities of Ruth and Cobb checks which have been absorbed by the collecting world. The check has a light horizontal foldline, and a single small, clean bank spindle hole in the center, both common characteristics of canceled bank checks. The reverse of the check has three bank cancellation stamps and has been endorsed by the payee ("Harry Loyd"). LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $3,480.00
