Circa 1940 Walter Johnson Autograph Letter

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,624.00

One-page handwritten letter penned by Walter Johnson in black ink. The letter, scripted upon Dr. Pepper Bottling Company stationery, is undated and finds Johnson responding to an autograph request by a fan. He writes in full: "Dear Mr. Bohrer: Your letter came and I was glad to hear that you are interested in autographs, which gives you something to do, and that you have so many. Lots of good luck. I am sincerely yours, Walter Johnson." The pen skipped a little in the "J" in "Johnson," otherwise the signature and all writing is virtually flawless ("8"). Although the letter is undated, Johnson served as a spokesperson for Dr. Pepper during the late 1930s and early 1940s, hence the use of the stationery. The stationery (8.5 x 8.25 inches) has been trimmed across the bottom (not affecting the content or display value in any way) and displays normal mailing fold lines, otherwise in Excellent condition. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,624.00
