1910 Christy Mathewson Won In The Ninth Signed Presentation Edition

Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $8,120.00

1910 special signed presentation hardcover first edition of Won In The Ninth by Christy Mathewson ("9"). This is the ultimate Christy Mathewson signed book, with special bookplate signed by Mathewson affixed to the interior cover. This is Presentation Copy #3. It is unknown exactly how many special presentation copies Mathewson signed. We have always thought the total to be 500, though it is possible that the total is actually as few as 250, as the highest numbered copy we have ever seen is #241. Very few have survived. This is the ideal signed Mathewson presentation book, as it is the only title by Mathewson which features a photograph of Mathewson on the cover, making it ideal for display. The 298-page book of baseball fiction has a special instructional section in the back. Published in 1910 by the R.J. Bodmer Company of New York, this is one of the most highly prized signed Mathewson books in existence, with an incredibly bold, essentially flawless signature. There is a light mirroring of the signature on first free end page and the presentation name has long ago been erased from the bookplate. Some light scattered minor surface scratches on the front cover, along with minor edge and corner wear, otherwise in Very Good to Excellent condition. Accompanied by an auction catalog from a non-baseball autograph auction house that previously sold the book and featured it prominently on the front cover of its catalog. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$8,000. SOLD FOR $8,120.00
