1967 Topps Test Stand-Up Proof Pete Rose

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $5,220.00

High-grade example of card #1 Pete Rose from the extraordinarily rare 1967 Topps Test Stand-Up set. This is one of Pete Rose's rarest cards. The 1967 Topps Stand-Ups are one of the most interesting of all 1960s Topps issues. This is one of the few Topps sets from the 1960s that make 1968 Topps 3Ds look common! This set was never actually issued to the public. Only a few of each player are known to exist. Most surviving examples are proofs, of which this is an example, which were cut from proof sheets but never put through the final mounting and die-cutting of the production process. These proofs are printed on traditional card stock, with no die-cut process. The final production pieces of this issue are mounted on very thick cardboard backing and have been die-cut punched. The 1967 Topps Test Stand-Ups were designed with the intention that the player's head was to be punched out of the black background. Additional small punched out pieces provided by the punching die at the bottom of the card, when properly used, allowed the head to stand. This example has just a tiny touch of white at the extreme tip of the lower right corner, and is otherwise in virtually flawless Near Mint to Mint condition. This is an extraordinary example of one of the key stars from this unbelievably rare Topps test issue. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $5,220.00
