1933 Goudey #25 Paul Waner GAI NM-MT 8

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $2,088.00

Graded NM-MT 8 by GAI. Exceptionally high-grade example of #25 Paul Waner from the 1933 Goudey set. Hall of Famer Paul Waner is captured in an attractive pose with his bat set against a deep red background. Waner is one of the most difficult cards in the set to find in high grade. This is no doubt related to the fact that as #25, this is a 1933 Goudey low-number card, all of which are particularly challenging to find in high grade. This is due to several factors: the inferior stock on which low-number 1933 Goudeys are printed, the tendency of low-number cards to gravitate to the top of large piles of cards when put in numerical order (therefore naturally being subjected to more wear), and the fact that the low numbers were issued earliest in the 1933 season, and thus naturally weathered more wear and tear on the playground than the series cards released later in the year. This is a world-class example of this significant condition rarity. Exceptionally crisp, perfectly clean, with red background bold and bright, perfect registry, four pack-fresh corners, well centered, and with a flawless reverse with bold green lettering. No examples have been graded higher by PSA, SGC, or GAI. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $2,088.00
