Newly Discovered 1921 Herpolsheimer's Clothing Maranville & Schalk (2)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $928.00

The 1921 Herpolsheimer's set is an extremely rare and very newly discovered issue. The set is very similar in design to E121 American Caramel and related issues (particularly D327 Holsum Bread and the W575-1 strip-card set), but with advertising on the reverse for the "Herpolsheimer's - Boys Fashion Shop - The Home of Boy's Fashionable Clothing - Second Floor." The Herpolsheimer's Clothing cards are exceedingly rare. Only a single find in 2004 of approximately seventy cards has ever surfaced, and it is believed that only one of each subject was included in this discovery. All cards from the find have a price notation written in pencil on the reverse. Offered are two Hall of Famers from this rare set: Rabbit Maranville and Ray Schalk. Both cards have been graded GOOD 30 by SGC (both have an Excellent appearance but have been downgraded due to the pencil notation on the reverse). Each is bright and clean with just a hint of border toning and a touch of wear to the corners. These are extremely rare cards. We have never before encountered even a single card from this set. If these cards are not unique, they are very close to being so. Two exceptional samples, both Hall of Famers, from one of the very few newly discovered vintage baseball card sets to surface in recent times. Total 2 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $928.00
