1915 E145 Cracker Jack Near-Complete Set (169 of 176)

Starting Bid - $4,000.00, Sold For - $16,240.00

Cracker Jacks are universally regarded as one of the most classic and highly regarded baseball card sets ever produced. Issued one card per box, the entire set of 176 cards could also be ordered by mail in exchange for 100 coupons, or 1 coupon plus 25 cents. Offered are 169 different of the 176 cards in the set, representing a near-complete set of this important issue. This set is highlighted by Ty Cobb, Joe Jackson, and Honus Wagner, each graded GOOD by SGC. Missing only the following seven cards for completion: #3 Tinker, 12 Mack, 27, 84, 113, 175, and 176. The near-complete set ranges from Fair to Gd-Vg condition: 92 cards range in grade from Good to Gd-Vg condition (includes a few Vg), 77 cards are lesser grades (almost all ranging from Fr to Fr-Gd, many with just a hint of edge chipping and a few with a corner chip, but still very pleasing and reasonably attractive low-grade cards). There are virtually no creases in the entire collection, but most cards have various imperfections in the form of general wear, corner rounding, soiling, and/or minor pencil notations on reverse. The lower-grade cards tend to have more soiling and some degree of corner or edge chipping, in most cases extremely minor. The integrity of even the weakest cards remains intact. This is a collection which was obviously played with and enjoyed in 1915. The lack of caramel stains suggests that it was originally a factory set. We have selected eight key cards to be encapsulated and graded by SGC. Highlights: #2 Frank Baker (SGC VG 40), 6 Eddie Plank (Fr), 7 Eddie Collins (Gd-Vg), 14 Sam Crawford (Gd-Vg), 17 Roger Bresnahan (Gd-Vg), 18 Johnny Evers (Gd-Vg), 19 Chief Bender (Fr), 23 Charles Comiskey (Vg front, pencil marks on back), 32 Mordecai Brown (Fr), 33 Ty Cobb (SGC GOOD 30), 35 Harry Hooper (Gd-Vg), 36 Ed Walsh (Fr-Gd), 37 G.C. Alexander (Fr), 39 Chick Gandil (Vg), 43 Rube Marquard (Fr), 52 Wheat (Gd), 57 Walter Johnson (SGC Authentic, slight trim otherwise Gd), 61 Ray Schalk (Vg front, pencil mark on back), 65 Tris Speaker (Gd), 66 Nap Lajoie (SGC GOOD 30), 68 Honus Wagner (SGC GOOD 30), 69 John McGraw (SGC VG 40), 70 Fred Clarke (Gd), 73 Max Carey (Gd-Vg), 75 Miller Huggins (Gd-Vg), 77 Hugh Jennings (Gd-Vg), 88 Christy Mathewson (SGC Authentic, slight trim otherwise Gd), 94 Cicotte (Fr-Gd), 99 Chase (Vg front, pencil marks on reverse), 103 Joe Jackson (SGC GOOD 30), 136 Maranville (Gd), 161 Roush (Fr), 167 Griffith (Gd). This is a very rarely offered relatively affordable low-to-medium grade near-complete set of one of card collecting's most classic issues. Total 169 cards. Reserve $4,000. Estimate $8,000/$12,000.
