1911 Baseball Bats Candy Cards (2)

Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $1,044.00

These rare vintage candy cards were originally issued in 1911 on the back panel of "Baseball Bats" penny candy. These unusual cards are so rare they were never even catalogued by Burdick in the ACC, but if they had been, they would have been "E" cards. The blank-backed cards measure approximately 1.75 x 2.75 inches and each features a black-and-white player photo surrounded by orange borders. Some cards feature black-and-white backgrounds and others have bright colored red backgrounds. This lot includes one card of each style. The player's name and team are printed in black letters along the bottom. The two cards in this lot are Hall of Famer Frank Chance and Stanage/front view (both in overall Vg condition). The fact that these two cards each have has its full orange border (which is often not the case with this issue) makes these two cards particularly desirable as samples. Rare and interesting pair of vintage candy cards from one of the most obscure sets of the deadball era. Total 2 cards. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $1,044.00
